Local Family Activities In Hoylake

Come rain or shine there’s something for the whole family in Hoylake and the local area.

• THURSTASTON COMMON NATURE RESERVE

Open throughout the year and free to visit, this 250-acre nature reserve, just 10 minutes’ drive from Hoylake is home to a wide range of wildlife making an excellent location for children and adults to run free and explore.

The main entrance to the area can be found at Royden Park, Frankby, but can also be approached from Thurstaston Hill near Irby. There’s a café nearby on School Lane off Thurstaston Road, accessible by foot only. See https://www.bentyfarmtearooms.co.uk/ for details.

• TAM O’SHANTER URBAN FARM

Just 5 miles from Hoylake is Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm, a free urban farm run by a charitable trust.  Children can meet a variety of animals from pigs to geese to rabbits to ponies while learning all about nature conservation and the local environment.

• THE POTTING SHED

If you’re feeling creative, The Potting Shed on Hoylake’s Market Street (just five-minutes walk from our new Kids Planet Nursery) is  the perfect place for children’s parties, baby footprints and school holiday activities. It’s a lovely light, bright and friendly paint-your-own-pottery studio and coffee shop, ideal for children (and creative parents too!).

• MEOLS BEACH

It might be the end of the summer but who doesn’t love a refreshing walk along the beach? Meols Beach is a five-minute drive from the centre of Hoylake.  Perfect for birdwatching, the sandy beach has shops and cafes nearby as well as parking and toilet facilities.
