Barkston Ash fundraise for Millie’s surgery

Kids Planet Barkston Ash is fundraising for a child who attends the nursery called Millie, who has had an ongoing journey with Syringomyelia.

Now £2,500 off their £20,000 target, Millie’s family are raising money to get her to Barcelona to have an operation that is not available on the NHS.

Millie is almost two years old and lives in Yorkshire. She was born at full-term with no health concerns until she failed to reach her gross motor milestones. As Millie has grown, it has become clear she’s unable to effectively use her legs due to spasticity, and she uses a standing frame as she can’t stand independently and gets around mainly by commando crawling.

Following months on waiting lists, Millie’s MRI results confirmed that she has Syringomyelia, a disorder in which a fluid-filled cyst forms within the spinal cord. Millie now needs spinal surgery to release pressure on the spinal cord in order to stop the disorder from progressing further, which may also relieve her current symptoms giving her a chance to learn to walk and become more independent.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the parents, children and staff at Kids Planet Barkston Ash who have already bought cakes, guessed the number of sweets in the jar, bought raffle tickets and worn sportswear to help raise money for Millie. lots of local companies have been very generous and donated some lovely prizes. The family are so close to their target and we really hope to help meet it.”

Little Movers are joining Kids Planet Barkston Ash on Thursday 24th November for a fundraising event to help raise funds for Millie. Currently the session is only available to children attending Kids Planet Day Nursery and Preschool and there will be classes with exciting, fun, action packed sessions of singing, dancing, playing games and using colourful props.
