Lower Pre-school at Kids Planet Shepherd Lodge in Lytham St Annes have been enjoying celebrating a different story each day, in line with World Book Day!
Today they have dressed up as their favourite book characters for World Book Day, and there has been a focus all week on reading books in a peculiar place to spark their imagination and bring fun to the reading experience.
The children have enjoyed their visits out to the park to read the stories and then do activities based on the story.
They read “A Tale of two feathers”, a book that inspires children to explore the differences between day and night, introducing them to a host of diurnal and nocturnal animals.
After reading this story, they went on a hunt to spot similarities to their chosen book. They searched for different breeds of birds around the park, even using their binoculars and magnifying glasses to look in the trees, and digging for some bugs.
Shepherd Lodge has a lending library that is very well used, and the children and families take part in lots of home learning challenges around books which they have at home or have borrowed from the library.
Lynsey Broughton, Nursery Manager at Kids Planet Shepherd Lodge, said:
We want to create a lifelong love of books for all our children. They absolutely love our lending library which is very well used, and therefore we’ve made World Book Day into World Book Week.
We know it’s important to get out in nature whilst learning and having fun, so it was great to see the children learning in the park, and digging for bugs – they even managed to find a wriggly worm.
The children have dressed up as characters from their favourite books, and it’s wonderful to see their personalities shining through!”
