Kids Outdoors – old

At Kids Planet we recognise that Outdoor Learning is a vital part of a child’s development and wellbeing.

Time in nature presents children with a multitude of unique challenges and experiences, supporting all areas of development, building a lifelong connection and appreciation for the earth and its many treasures. Outdoor learning provides children with the opportunity to amaze and delight in the everyday, at their own pace, alongside supportive adults who build upon children’s interests.

And there’s method in the mud! There are many scientifically proven benefits to spending time in the great outdoors. Prolonged time in a natural environment not only supports development but has a tremendous impact on overall health and well-being. Research shows that increased time in a natural environment improves children’s concentration, encourages higher levels of social interaction, and supports self-esteem.

Outdoors children can play louder, bigger, and messier, allowing for spontaneous uninterrupted learning. Carefully thought-out environments give children the chance to explore, discover and take appropriate risk. Practitioners embrace all weathers, teaching children about the unique seasons of the year, echoing the Scandinavian ethos, “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.”

Alongside our marvellous gardens (on the grounds of our settings), our love and respect for the natural world and all it has to offer compelled us to further enrich our children’s experiences when it comes to being outside. And so, the concept of, ‘Kids Outdoors’ was born. Kids Outdoors inspired by Scandinavian traditions and ways of life, allows children to reconnect with the natural environment, giving opportunities to gain valuable skills, through play-based, hands on learning in the great outdoors. Sessions take place in the glorious grounds of Dunham Massey National Trust Park and enable children to grow in confidence, work as a team and discover all the wonder that nature has to offer.
