Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day

Celebrating diversity, inclusivity, and the uniqueness of every child. πŸ’™πŸ’›

What is World Down Syndrome Day?

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed every year on 21st March to raise awareness and advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of individuals with Down syndrome.
The date (21/03) is significant as it represents the triplication of the 21st chromosome, which is the genetic cause of Down syndrome. At Kids Planet, we believe in providing a supportive environment for all children, including those with SEND, ensuring they have the best possible start in life.

Supporting Children at Kids Planet

We are committed to providing tailored support to children with Down syndrome and other SEND needs through a holistic approach:

Proudly Supporting Down Syndrome UK

This year, Kids Planet nurseries are raising awareness and funds for Down Syndrome UK, a charity providing essential resources and advocacy. Together, we are building a more inclusive future for all families.

Our Nurseries in Action

Across our settings, we are celebrating with meaningful activities to engage our children and communities:

Salford Quays: Silly Socks & Hair Day

On Friday 21st March, we are inviting children to wear odd socks and a funky hairstyle! This fun-filled event highlights the importance of celebrating our differences.

Bake sale fundraiser

Shortwood Lodge: Bake Sale Fundraiser

Starting 17th March, we are hosting a mouth-watering bake sale! Treats include cupcakes and brownies, with funds supporting a parent running the London Marathon for Down Syndrome Awareness.

Denbigh: Stay & Play Morning

Denbigh is hosting a Stay & Play morning where families can take part in the Sunflower Challenge while enjoying delicious lemon sunflower cupcakes for charity.

Home learning kits

Kingswinford: Home Learning Sunflower Challenge

Families can take home a sunflower-growing kit! We encourage everyone to share their progress as we raise awareness and donations via reception QR codes.

Ansdell: holding a special raffle with proceeds going toward Down Syndrome UK’s Sunflower Challenge.
Davenport: children are planting sunflowers as part of their EYFS learning, understanding that we all grow and flourish in unique ways.

Join Us in Celebrating Inclusion

Whether you’re joining one of our events, donating, or simply wearing odd socks to spark a conversation, your support makes a difference. Together, we can foster an inclusive environment where all children thrive. πŸ’™πŸ’›
