Learning Together: The Power of Intergenerational Play

Building bridges between the youngest and oldest members of our community to foster empathy and joy.

We live in a society where the care of children and the elderly are increasingly separated by distance and time. As a result, opportunities for these two age groups to interact can be limited. However, research shows that bringing children and older adults together in a daycare setting creates incredible assets, both physically and mentally, for everyone involved.

🌟 Twofold Benefits: Growth for Every Generation

For Our Children

Studies highlight significant improvements in language development, reading skills, and self-esteem. By sharing stories with elders, children develop deep empathy and a natural concern for the well-being of others, often showing great care and patience when moving around their older friends.

For Our Older Generations

Visits from children help residents feel part of a community again, boosting self-worth and communication. Social interaction has been shown to decrease loneliness, delay mental decline, and even improve physical health issues like blood pressure.

🏘️ Community Highlights

Many Kids Planet nurseries have developed wonderful relationships with local care homes. Here are just a few of our recent visits:

Kids Planet Congleton: Children visited Bakers’ Villas Care Home to draw pictures and share biscuits they had made themselves at preschool.
Kids Planet Widnes: Our younger children visited Halton View to sing Christmas carols and deliver a festive hamper to the delighted residents.
Kids Planet Wallasey: Children visited Granville Court for a “messy but fun” session of hand-painting alongside the residents.

The feedback from our Nursery Managers confirms a real sense of positivity around learning through generations. It is a magical experience that teaches our children the importance of caring for one another.
