As the summer holidays are approaching and the nursery year comes to a close, for many of our families, so does their time with Kids Planet as our preschoolers get ready for the next stage in their journey: Big School!
As parents, we often find ourselves marvelling at how quickly our little ones grow. From their first steps to their first words, each milestone is a testament to their development and a source of pride for us. One such significant milestone is their preschool graduation – a momentous occasion that marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
Preparing for your child’s preschool graduation is not just about the ceremony itself; it’s a celebration of their achievements and a reflection of the love and support they’ve received along the way. Given that we have a little bit (a lot!) of experience in this area, we’ve popped together a guide to help you make this event memorable and magical for all the family:
Start by marking the date of the graduation ceremony on your calendar. Sounds simple, but as busy parents, this will allow you to plan accordingly and make any necessary arrangements in advance. Our preschool teams will be in touch with information regarding timings, format, and things you may like/need to bring (tissues and a camera etc!)
Each of our nurseries are unique and will be putting their own spin on their Kids Planet graduation – some will be preparing songs, dances, or even plays. Whilst we will be making sure your child is well versed in our chosen graduation rituals, it’s worth you also familiarising yourself with these, so your little ones can practice at home with you too ahead of the big day. Role-playing these scenarios at home can help alleviate any anxiety or nervousness they may feel when it’s really happening. Encourage them to express their feelings about graduating from preschool and reassure them that it’s a time for celebration!
Opt for something comfortable that reflects the celebratory nature of the occasion that will allow for the graduation cap and gown to sit over. Comfy shoes are a must for the dancing and partying!
Some nurseries have larger space so additional family and friends can attend the ceremony and share the excitement of the day (also great to designate someone to take pictures so you as parents can be really immersed in the moment), but if you’re not able to take any family and friends – why not host a small gathering of your own afterwards? Whether it’s grandparents, aunts, uncles, or close family friends, having their support and presence will make the day even more special for your child!
Make sure to take plenty of photos and videos during the graduation ceremony. These precious moments will become cherished memories that you can look back on in the years to come! Consider creating a scrapbook or photo album dedicated to your child’s preschool journey, including pictures from the graduation day. Make sure to ask them what their hopes and dreams for the future are at this point, and pop those in there too!
Take this opportunity to reflect on your child’s growth and accomplishments during their time in nursery and preschool. It’s been a real journey! In this time many of our children learn to walk, talk, make friends – it’s a huge part of their life. Acknowledge their achievements and be proud of yourself as a parent for getting them to this point – you did it together! Preschool graduation is not just a milestone; it’s a celebration of family, friendship, and the boundless potential of our children.
So to summarise – preparing for your child’s preschool graduation is about more than just planning logistics – it’s about embracing the significance of this milestone and celebrating the incredible journey that has led your child to this moment! By following these tips and infusing the celebration with love, joy, and personal touches, you can create a memorable and meaningful experience that will be cherished for many happy years to come. Congratulations to you and your little graduate – we will miss you more than you know!
