Overview
About Old Vicarage
A long-standing team cares for babies through to preschoolers at Kids Planet Old Vicarage, in the heart of Barrow-in-Furness. Our nursery has been part of local family life since 1995, with an additional purpose-built building for children aged two and above. Outdoor exploration and local outings are part of your child’s experiences.
We open year-round and work closely with families as their children grow. Our team adapts care for children with additional needs, helping them take part in everyday nursery life. We use your child’s interests to support learning through play, offering help and encouragement as they explore and try new things.

Melissa Taylor
ManagerI joined the team in 2015, starting as an apprentice and progressing through roles including Room Leader and Deputy Manager. I’ve been proud to lead the team as Nursery Manager for the past four years, including guiding the nursery through its first year as part of Kids Planet following our transition in June 2025.
I hold a Level 3 Early Years Practitioner qualification, along with Paediatric First Aid and DSL training. I’ve also completed additional training in Baby Care, Autism Awareness, School Readiness, and Behaviour Management.
I’m passionate about early years development and love building strong, trusting relationships with both children and their families. Having worked across all age groups, I make it a priority to connect with every child, support my team to deliver the highest standards of care and education, and celebrate what makes every child unique.
Adventures Beyond the Classroom
Bringing Learning to Life with Outdoor Play
At Kids Planet, we believe the great outdoors is one of the best learning environments. Our unique nature-based learning encourages children to explore, take on new challenges, and develop essential life skills through hands-on outdoor experiences. Whether it’s discovering wildlife, growing vegetables, or engaging in active play, we provide endless opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive in the natural world.
