About Us

Kids Planet Henley 1

Henley 1, founded in 2002, provides high-quality care and early years education for children aged 6 weeks to 3 years. Following the success of this nursery, Henley 2 opened nearby in 2009, offering a smooth transition for children when they turn three.

We are proud to have completed our Inspire accreditation and achieved Eco Warrior status, recognising our commitment to high-quality learning and sustainability. Outdoor learning plays an important role in daily life at Henley 1, with our Udeskole approach helping children build independence, resilience, and a strong connection to nature through meaningful first-hand experiences. From firepit cooking and sensory nature walks to trips into the local community and visits to the nearby nature reserve, we provide rich opportunities for exploration that spark curiosity and broaden horizons.

At Henley 1, every child is encouraged to explore with confidence, develop independence, and foster a love of learning from the very start, supported by a nurturing and passionate team.

Our setting is open from 7.30am to 6.00pm, with core session options including 8.00am–5.30pm, 8.00am–12.30pm, and 1.00pm–5.30pm to suit a range of family needs.

Hands-on learning in nature

Outdoor Adventures with Udeskole

At Henley 1, outdoor learning is at the heart of what we do. Through our Udeskole approach, children take part in meaningful, real-world experiences such as cooking vegetable kebabs over the firepit, toasting marshmallows, and exploring the natural world. These activities encourage independence, resilience, and problem-solving while introducing important skills like fire safety, healthy eating, and tool use. Inspired by Froebelian principles and Forest School values, our outdoor practice connects children with nature, builds confidence, and nurtures a strong sense of community.

Learning beyond the nursery

Exploring the Wider World

We make the most of our local area to give children inspiring experiences that support their development. From babies feeling the grass and leaves at the nature reserve, to older children exploring woodlands, every outing is designed to spark curiosity and a sense of belonging. Trips are always carefully supported by our team, who introduce rich vocabulary and help children connect what they see, feel, and hear. These community experiences are also brought back into nursery life, with natural objects used in creative and sensory activities, ensuring learning continues indoors as well as outdoors.

Spaces that grow with them

A Garden Shaped by Children

Our outdoor environment is continually evolving, shaped by the children who use it every day. Recently, our team refreshed the garden with cosy corners, open-ended resources, and active zones that reflect the current cohort’s interests. This thoughtful reset encourages exploration, creativity, and connection with nature, while making sure every child finds something that sparks their curiosity. The result is a space that feels truly theirs, supporting imaginative play, social interaction, and a deeper love of the outdoors.
