About Topsham House
Kids Planet Topsham House has welcomed families in Desford, Leicestershire, since 1996. Founded by a primary school teacher, our nursery cares for children from birth to five in a homely setting. Outdoor play continues across the seasons, with local outings adding discoveries beyond nursery.
Our team works with parents to understand what interests each child and how they’re developing. We use that knowledge to support learning through play and everyday experiences. As children make friends and begin doing more for themselves, our team offers encouragement and help when needed, giving them time to grow at their own pace.

Karen Haylett
ManagerI am the Nursery Manager at Kids Planet Topsham House. Having qualified in 1993, I joined Topsham House when it first opened in 1996 and have been working in early years education ever since.
I hold an NNEB, a Level 5 HND in Advanced Practice in Working with Children and Families, a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies (Level 6), and Early Years Professional Status (Level 6). I have extensive experience working with children from as young as six weeks through to eleven years, supporting their development at every stage of early childhood.
I am passionate about giving every child the very best start in life, working in close partnership with families, and providing high-quality, inclusive provision. I strongly value being embedded within the local community and supporting children and families beyond the nursery setting.
