What is Ramadan? 🌙⭐

Ramadan is a special and sacred month for Muslims around the world – a time of fasting, reflection, kindness, and community. From sunrise to sunset, many Muslims fast as an act of faith and gratitude, coming together in the evenings to break their fast with delicious meals and joyful gatherings.

But Ramadan is about so much more than just fasting – it’s a time to practise kindness, support those in need, and strengthen bonds with loved ones.

At the end of Ramadan, the celebrations reach their peak with Eid al-Fitr, which is a festival of joy, where families and friends dress up, exchange gifts, and enjoy plenty of delicious food.

At Kids Planet, we love embracing different cultures and traditions, helping children learn about the world in fun, hands-on ways. This Ramadan, our nurseries have been getting creative, curious, and – most importantly – having a great time celebrating!

How Our Nurseries Are Celebrating Ramadan

Kids Planet Bubbenhall: Exploring Mehndi Art

At Bubbenhall, we’ve been getting artistic with some beautiful Mehndi (henna) designs! The children traced around their hands and decorated them with intricate patterns, just like many people do to celebrate Eid. Not only was this an enjoyable and creative activity, but it also sparked lovely conversations about different traditions and celebrations.

Kids Planet Chris Abell: Ramadan Stories & Star Gazing

Over at Chris Abell, the children have been diving into Ramadan through storytelling, discovering why this month is so important and the values it teaches – kindness, patience, and giving to others.

But the learning didn’t stop there! The children also got crafty, making their very own binoculars to help them look for the crescent moon, which is the key sign that Ramadan has begun and ended. Using cardboard tubes, stickers, and lots of creativity, they made their own star-gazing tools, ready for some night time adventures!

Kids Planet Bradmore Road (Oxford): Interactive Learning with Saika

A huge thank you to Saika, who brought Ramadan to life for our pre-schoolers at Bradmore Road! Through exciting stories, crafts, and interactive activities, the children explored the themes of gratitude, kindness, and community.

From learning about fasting to discussing ways we can be kind to one another, it was a brilliant, hands-on way to introduce the spirit of Ramadan to our little learners.

Kids Planet Leeds Church Walk: Moon & Star Creations

Over at Leeds Church Walk, our toddlers have been getting creative with a sparkly moon and star craft activity! 🌙⭐

Since the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, the crescent moon and stars are important symbols of Ramadan. The children loved decorating their own moons and stars with colourful tissue paper and glitter, learning all about the night sky and its connection to Ramadan.

To bring the learning to life even more, they also enjoyed a Ramadan story time, where they counted stars in the pictures and chatted about the festival’s meaning.

Kids Planet Prestwich: Sharing the Tradition of Dates

At Prestwich, we’ve been embracing the spirit of giving by sharing bags of dates with our families!

Dates have a special significance in Ramadan, as they’re traditionally eaten to break the fast at sunset, following in the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad. This simple but meaningful tradition gave our children a chance to learn about different customs and how food plays an important role in celebrations around the world.

Kids Planet Stanley Square: Building Mosques & Mehndi Fun

At Stanley Square, the children have been getting hands-on with their learning, building their own mini mosques using blocks and materials from around the nursery. It was a great way to explore places of worship while encouraging teamwork and creativity!

They also had a go at creating their own Mehndi designs, carefully decorating hands with patterns inspired by the traditional art form.

Why Learning About Ramadan Matters

At Kids Planet, we love celebrating different cultures and helping children discover the rich diversity of the world around them. Learning about Ramadan isn’t just about understanding one festival – it’s about encouraging empathy, inclusivity, and respect for all.

By exploring traditions through storytelling, crafts, and hands-on activities, we help children appreciate the beauty of different celebrations while making learning fun and meaningful.

To all those celebrating, we hope this Ramadan brings you joy, peace, and wonderful moments with your loved ones.

Ramadan Mubarak from all of us at Kids Planet!
